Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil ; for you are with me; Your staff, they comfort me. Psalms 23:4
It is becoming harder and harder to find peace in this world. It seems like there is one crisis after another with no lasting solutions. In spite of all the technological advances, things seem to getting worse in our world. The economy is unstable with the threat of another depression looming on the horizon. Senseless acts of violence have become commonplace in many of our communities. Our government has become fragmented and dysfunctional for the most part. Our opinions have become our truth, sometimes based on little to no factual evidence. And these so-called truths are being pushed through the social media, leading many people astray.
In spite of all this we can have peace! This peace can be found in the presence of God. When we choose to walk in the presence of God, His peace surrounds us and protects us. We can be like Jesus in the midst of the storm. There is a story in the book of Mark, about Jesus and his disciples crossing a great sea. Jesus told his disciples to take Him to the other side of the lake. He later went to sleep. While Jesus was sleeping a great storm started, and waves of water entered the boat. The disciples were afraid because they thought they were going to drown. But Jesus was fast asleep, so they woke him up. They said to Jesus, “Don’t you care that we are drowning in this storm?” Jesus stood up and spoke to the wind and the waves and said, “Peace be still.” Suddenly, the storm stopped and there was peace. Mark 4:35-41
Jesus was able to do this because He was in the constant presence of God. Jesus had the assurance that if God was with Him, there was nothing that could harm Him. You can have this same confidence if you are God inside minded. If you have accepted Jesus into your life, He resides within you. (1 John 4:4) If you are mindful of this, you can act like Jesus when faced with crisis in your life. Become more mindful of God’s presence in your life and you will have His peace!
