If you remain in Me, and my words remain in you, you will ask whatever you desire, and it will done for you. John 15:7
Jesus made a promise to those who choose to abide with Him. He promised that whatever they ask for would be done for them. Sounds like a good deal to me, but why don’t more people take advantage of this promise? One reason could be that some people are unaware of this promise. Then there are some people who don’t believe this promise, and finally there are some people who don’t know what it means to abide in Jesus. For those of you who were ignorant of the promise, you are ignorant no more. For those who refuse to believe, I encourage you reconsider your stance. Finally, those of you who don’t know what means to abide keep reading this blog.
What does the word abide mean? It means to remain. So Jesus said for those who would remain in Him they could ask whatever they desire and it would be done for them. How do we abide or remain in Jesus. By consuming His Word. Jesus is the Word of God. (John 1:14) So if we choose to consume The Word of God we are abiding with Jesus. Just like the branch receives its life from the vine, so we get our life from the Word of God. This is how we can abide in Jesus. By making it a point to spend time in the Word everyday. When we do this, we are allowing the life of Jesus to feed our mind; and this how we begin to produce fruit in our lives. You can’t expect to produce fruit in your life and grow spiritually, if the only time you spend time in the Word is once a week. No more than you can expect get in physical shape by working out once a week. You are not abiding you are just visitng. There are no rewards for those who are visitors, only those who are abiders.
